Always Evolving!

Quebec City, February 11, 2018 — The Quebec Winter Carnival organization once again draws a positive picture of its great wintertime event. This year’s Carnival offered a diverse program featuring activities suited to various interests across multiple sites, including nearly 20 new activities that accounted for about 40% of the program. To mention only a few of the many events and features that captivated visitors at the 2018 Carnival, this edition included a Butt-Rider Race, Ice Sculpture Workshops where participants created their own masterpieces, the popular VIA Rail Ice Slide right on Grande Allée, Chop Your Log Presented by Videotron, the Night Parades and their many jaw-dropping innovations, and the unique and innovative Odyss Land of Ice immersive and interactive experience.

“The new, diverse Carnival sites were successful last year, contributing to a 20% increase in visitors. This year, we furthered this innovation by renewing about 40% of our program offer. Judging by the crowded sites and the smiles on the faces of our visitors, I can tell we’re on the right track. Of course, I personally thank the Carnival team, our many collaborators and the 900 volunteers who helped us this year,” said Mélanie Raymond, chief executive officer for the Quebec Winter Carnival.

“My fellow board members and I are very proud of the incredible accomplishments of the last three years. Not only are the Carnival finances back in the black, but thousands of people of all ages are rediscovering their great winter event through an evolving program. I wish to thank the entire Carnival team and to reaffirm our support of their endeavors. I also want to thank our financial backers,” added Alain April, chairman of the board for the Quebec Winter Carnival.

“The Château Frontenac is proud of the success of its exhibit titled Château d’hiver, retour aux origines du Carnaval de Québec, which was offered in association with the Carnival and its workshops. The relation linking the Château Frontenac and the Carnival dates back to 125 years ago, when we hosted the very first Carnival. We’re pleased to welcome the enthusiastic Carnival visitors year after year and to join forces with this backbone of wintertime tourism in Quebec City,” stated Robert Mercure, general manager of Fairmont Le Château Frontenac.

“Year after year, the Carnival proves it’s a flagship tourism event in Quebec City. In 2018, the Carnival team notably hosted 112 different media and 96 foreign travel agencies. We are proud of our association with the Carnival, a critical winter event for Quebec City’s international recognition as well as its economy,” said André Roy, director of Québec City Tourism.
