The Best Antidote for the Cold!

Quebec, Thursday November 28, 2019—The party is amping up for 10 days of festive fun at the 66th Quebec Winter Carnival, scheduled February 7 to 16, 2020! Visitors will be treated to an opening night hip-hop party, a brand-new snow sliding site for grown-ups, an even wackier version of Jos’ Camp and a second edition of the electro music evening. The Effigy, which grants access to all three Carnival sites and to the major music events, is now available on presale for $10 online and in participating Couche-Tard stores.

“We follow through with the implementation of the vision set out in 2019. The 66th Carnival renews itself through Major Gatherings that honor tradition while diving headfirst into the future. This latest edition features the Sapporo Electro frette—which was very successful last year, the Pepsi Hip-Hop Evening, an all-new slow sliding site and returning classics such as the Parades, the Ice Palace, Jos’ Camp by Videotron and the Canoe Race. To complete the program, we are about to announce scores of Partner Events over the following weeks,” said Mélanie Raymond, chief executive officer of the Quebec Winter Carnival.

Opening Night: Pepsi Hip-Hop Evening—Loto-Québec Zone

The Carnival hits the ground running on February 7, 2020! Bonhomme invites everyone to the Pepsi Hip-Hop Evening for the opening night at the Ice Palace. The king of festivities will host the Lower Canadian post-rigodon band Alaclair Ensemble and two rising stars of Quebec rap music, FouKi and QuietMike. They will all light up the stage in the magical atmosphere of the Ice Palace, performing against an exceptional backdrop featuring a new giant snow sculpture. This event is free for Carnival Effigy owners. Places are limited, so join us early!

 The Loto-Québec Zone and Bonhomme’s Ice Palace—Place de l’Assemblée-Nationale

The Ice Palace draws inspiration from the ‘80s and ‘90s, bathing you in the playful world and mythical objects of the late 20th century. It all begins with Pixel, an immersive multimedia experience designed by Matièrs. “We wanted to offer the public a space of freedom where spirited fun comes naturally through instinct alone. That’s why we created a playful retro world inspired by the arcades of the ‘80s and ‘90s,” said Ghislain Turcotte, president and creative director of Matièrs.

The Ice Palace will also spotlight snow and ice artwork such as the returning gigantic snow sculpture, whose retro pop aesthetic will dominate the site from a height of 30 feet. Many ice sculptures will also be created live to decorate the area over the course of ten days.

Of course, the Palace is Bonhomme Carnaval’s iconic home and the preferred gathering spot of Carnival-goers. Bonhomme will visit the site several times each day to meet visitors, who can also relax and warm up inside the SAQ Bistro while enjoying free live music.

“We are pleased to continue collaborating with the Carnival, a landmark event for Quebec. The Carnival unites us at the heart of winter through scores of entertaining outdoors events. We are proud to support major, positive events that bring people together, wherever and whenever they take place across the province. We invite you to put your dreams front and center and come play with us,” stated Éric Meunier, director of responsible gambling and social commitment for Loto‑Québec.

The Christie North Slope—Parc de la Francophonie

This all-new Carnival snow sliding site features a slope for the most daring among us: the Christie Descent! This 300-foot inner tubing incline launches from a pad built right on top of Grande Allée.

 Jos’ Camp by Videotron—Place George-V

At Jos’ Camp by Videotron, we’re stronger than the cold! Be it at the legendary Snow Bath, at the impressive Axe Throwing activity, at the Wintertime Wrestling Events, at a show rocking the Videotron Music Box, at an interactive lumberjack activity or at a wacky street hockey game, visitors will find everything they need to tame winter at Jos’ Camp. If you’re feeling clever, check out Garant Snow Removal, a puzzle course by Défi-Évasion where you’ll rack your brain looking for the right solution.

Jos’ Camp is also the meeting grounds for the most cheerful among us! Thanks to the Mixology Happy Hours featuring Ungava Spirits Co. at the Cabot Trail Bar and the comforting meals and beers at the Unibroue Cabin, Jos’ Camp is ready to keep your festive spirits high! Finally, visitors can expect a complete musical program before and after the Saturday Parades at the Campwarming Parties, which will feature performances by Les Respectables, Les Dales Hawerchuck, Pépé et sa guitare and Caravane.

“Videotron is proud to join the Quebec Winter Carnival for a fourth consecutive year. The Carnival is a unique opportunity for us to offer unparalleled experiences to youth and families in a festive and welcoming atmosphere,” said Evelyne Morrisseau, senior director, strategic alliances, brands and digital media for Videotron.

 Sapporo Electro frette—Rue Jacques-Parizeau

Next February 14, Carnival-goers are invited to dance to electro rhythms and to celebrate Valentine’s Day like nowhere else in town. Five female artists rock the turntables: Shieldie (Quebec, Canada), Ryan Playground (Montreal, Canada), Kendoll (Los Angeles, United States), Lady Style (Paris, France) et Juicy M (Kiev, Ukraine).

Like last year, this show will be held on rue Jacques-Parizeau on the corner of rue de la Chevrotière and rue d’Artigny. Access to the event is free for owners of the Quebec Winter Carnival Effigy.

Business Leaders' Luncheon Presented by TEC Canada

Once again, the Carnival is proud to host the businesspeople of the Quebec City area at the Business Leaders’ Luncheon Presented by TEC Canada in association with the Quebec City Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Join us at the Québec City Convention Centre this coming February 4 for a French-language keynote speech titled Dans un univers du tourisme en mutation, transformation et internationalisation du Club Med by Henri Giscard-d'Estaing, president of Club Med.

 A Longer Presale Period

The Effigy grants access to the Loto-Québec Zone, the Christie Descent, Jos’ Camp by Videotron, the Pepsi Hip-Hop Evening and Sapporo Electro frette.

This year, children aged up to 12 can enjoy all Carnival activities free of charge with or without the Effigy, up from age 8 last year.

The Effigy presale period was also extended to January 19, 2020. Until then, the Effigy will be available for the low price $10, taxes included, at Thepointofsale.com and in participating Couche‑Tard stores in the greater Quebec City area (regular price: $20, taxes included).

Each unit includes winter rebates redeemable in January and February at various shops, restaurants and attractions in the area. Finally, some businesses and Partner Events offer rebates or privileges to Effigy owners.
