Two Essentials at the Heart of the Celebrations

Quebec City, Thursday, November 29, 2018—Bonhomme Carnaval invites lovers of all things festive to the heart of his celebrations on place George-V and at the parc de la Francophonie from February 8 to 17, 2019. Place George-V is home to the new incarnation of the Ice Palace, namely the massive Loto-Québec Royal Court, an otherworldly, interactive universe based on Bonhomme’s wildest dreams! The Royal Court features an enormous 30-foot high snow sculpture the likes of which the Carnival had never seen. At parc de la Francophonie, Jos’ Camp Presented by Videotron pays homage to legendary lumberjack Jos Montferrand by rallying anyone looking for fun challenges and interactive experiences. The Carnival Effigy, which grants access to all activities on these two sites, is now on presale for $10 (taxes included) online and in participating Couche-Tard stores.

“The heart of our Carnival is focused and amplified! Pursuant to our 2019 vision, which we revealed last spring, Jos’ Camp and the Royal Court become rally points featuring an even higher density of festive fun. These essential elements of the Carnival are unique and exclusive to our event, and we invite everyone to come experience them”, said Mélanie Raymond, Chief Executive Officer of the Quebec Winter Carnival.

The Loto-Québec Zone and its Royal Court: Bonhomme’s Dream—Place George-V

Bonhomme’s Ice Palace, the centerpiece of our winter event, adopts a brand-new form this year, becoming the Loto-Québec Royal Court. This themed course features a giant mobile and its moving shadows, experiential ice towers brimming with sounds and lights, and a monumental 30-foot high snow sculpture representing various key symbols of Quebec City. Bonhomme Carnaval will regularly meet visitors in front of this artwork by talented sculptor Marc Lepire.

The dome at the end of the course houses Bonhomme’s Dream, an immersive multimedia experience by Lucion Média where an enthralling dreamlike world comes to life. The Dream is bound to delight young and not so young alike, whether the sun or the moon is high in the sky.

“All over the province, Loto-Québec supports events that bring significant social and economic benefits to their community. The Carnival brings people together at the heart of winter, offers scores of outdoors activities and gives us so much to dream about. This makes it a prime example of the goal behind our sponsorship program, which is to open up a whole world of entertainment for festival-goers and our clients”, said Simon Robert, director of corporate responsibility for Loto-Québec.

Also inside the Loto-Québec Zone, visitors can enter a wintry fantasy world at the Loto-Québec Portal and build their own sculpture at the DuProprio Ice Village. Just a few steps away stands the Christie Frost Garden, a delightful minigolf course for the young at heart. Finally, festival-goers can relax and warm up at the SAQ Bistro while enjoying a diverse musical program.

Jos’ Camp Presented by Videotron: an amped-up program in a vintage Canadian atmosphere—Parc de la Francophonie

Jos’ Camp Presented by Videotron is the number one meeting place for the most festive among us! At the Videotron Music Box, nearly 20 music shows will keep visitors on their toes. Les Coureurs bar hosts mixology happy hours with Spiritueux Ungava, and at Jos’ Cabin by Unibroue, Jos Montferrand himself welcomes everyone with board games and festive entertainment! For a bit of a challenge, visitors can head over to the woods and face The Forest of Will-o'-the-Wisps by Défi-Évasion, specialists of “escape the room” events. The Axe Throwing activity returns—and so does Chop Your Log Presented by Videotron, a collective video game for anyone to try out. Many other one-time activities will spruce up the site, including the wacky Winter Wrestling Event by Marto Napoli, who’s now a regular guest at the Carnival.

“Videotron is proud to team up with the Quebec Winter Carnival for a fourth straight year. Our mission through our collaboration with this winter event is to offer fun experiences to youth and families in a festive and heartwarming atmosphere. We’re eager to bring an improved Jos’ Camp featuring the collaborative Chop Your Log video game in 2019”, said Evelyn Morrisseau, senior director, strategic alliances, brands and digital media for Videotron.

Effigy Presale

The Effigy grants access to all activities at Jos’ Camp Presented by Videotron and inside the Loto-Québec Zone, including the Royal Court. Children aged 8 or younger can access our sites without an Effigy. Starting today and until December 31, the Effigy is on presale for $10 (taxes included) on the Carnival website and in participating Couche-Tard stores across the greater Quebec City area (regular price: $15, taxes included). Each unit comes with a booklet of coupons redeemable in January and February at various shops, restaurants and tourist attractions in the region. Finally, some businesses grant discounts to Effigy wearers.
