As you probably already know, every winter, Bonhomme comes to La Jacques-Cartier. It’s his big playground! This year, he’s put together a long wish list so he won’t miss a thing. The region has so much to offer, and he’s excited to try it all. Follow his recommendations… and who knows, maybe you’ll run into him this winter!

  1. Cross-country skiing at Station Duchesnay
One of the region’s finest attractions, Station Duchesnay is a must-see. Bonhomme loves wandering around, taking photos of the snow-capped mountains and cheering on the outdoor enthusiasts enjoying all kind of sports. Above all, he enjoys taking the time to breathe in the fresh air and admire the gorgeous scenery. And this year, he decided to take on a challenge: to complete cross-country ski trails 4 and 5, for a total of 9.1 km. He’ll also be sure to stop by La Bicoque campsite for a well-deserved break in the heart of the mountains!

2. Going for night rides at Empire 47
Bonhomme fell in love with fatbiking a few years ago. Every winter since then, he’s ridden his oversized bike along snowy trails. This season, he wants to try something new: night rides. What’s that? It’s a bike ride in the dark, with lights on the helmet and the handlebar. It’s said to be pretty magical, with the moon reflecting off the snow and riders lighting the trails. It’s a true spectacle! Night rides are available from Monday to Friday until 9 p.m. You can bring your own gear or rent a fatbike with a handlebar light included. The activity ends around a friendly fire outside.

  1. Experiencing winter camping with a pro
Bonhomme doesn’t mind the cold, but he wouldn’t think of going winter camping without a professional guide. This year, he plans to try it out with the help of Quatre Natures. He’ll spend a night in the magnificent Jacques-Cartier National Park, either in a self-built quinzhee (a traditional snow shelter) or in a tent. An experienced guide shares techniques for sleeping outdoors in freezing weather. Bonhomme is eager to learn new things, and he’s already looking forward to falling asleep under a starry sky, in a quiet snowy forest.

  2. Enjoying a meal at Chez Denise

Bonhomme has discovered a great place for families to grab a bite to eat in Shannon: Chez Denise. With its vintage decor and large tables, it’s the perfect place for a fun time. Expect indulgent burgers, generous poutines, and desserts that warm the soul. And as you eat, try out one of the board games on hand. Laughter guaranteed! Bonhomme loves stopping by to see families together—it’s like they’re having Sunday brunch at auntie Denise’s, but with even more bacon.

5. Visiting Vallée Jeunesse’s mini-cottages

Bonhomme is always on the lookout for new experiences, so he’s also planning a stay in a Vallée Jeunesse accommodation. He’ll get to see the new domes and mini-cottages, designed and built by students. These cozy accommodations also help a good cause. They support an organization that works with young people facing social or educational challenges. With their location on the banks of the Rivière Jacques-Cartier, they offer enchanting scenery and plenty of trails to explore. To make your stay even better, there’s an outdoor fire pit, perfect for warming up as you relax and enjoy nature.
